OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- In 2015, it was a very good year for two of Winsight’s data-rich special issues. The Category Management Handbook and Foodservice Handbook took gold and silver awards, respectively, in both regional and national “Azbee” awards from ASBPE.
CSP’s 2015 Category Management Handbook, produced by senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller, lead designer Nico Heins and group director of editorial production Jennifer Bulat, won the top spot in the category of special supplement. This in-depth special issue of CSP has been recognized numerous times in the past 12 years for excellence as a special supplement and in information graphics.
In the same category, the 2015 Foodservice Handbook came in right behind Category Management Handbook,recognized as a silver national and regional winner. This year marks the first Azbee wins for the supplement, the official publication of Winsight’s FARE conference.

The December 2015 profile of CSP’s 2015 Retailer Leader of the Year (RLOY), Tony Kenney of Speedway, written by senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller, was recognized as a silver national and gold regional winner for individual profile.
The profiles of CSP’s RLOY consistently have been recognized for business-press excellence. Senior editor/content development coordinator Angel Abcede was awarded Azbees for his profiles of Sam Susser, then of Susser Holdings, CSP’s 2014 RLOY; John MacDougall of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, 2013 RLOY; and Don Zietlow of Kwik Trip, 2012 RLOY.
In the category of article design, CSP’s April 2015 cover story “Hit the Jackpot” won gold in both national and regional awards.
In overall magazine design, the February and April 2015 issues of CSP won bronze in the regional awards. CSP’s 2015 redesign won a silver regional award in magazine redesign.
In the category of regular department, CSP’s Kitchen foodservice section, produced by Abbie Westra, director of Winsight’s retail content group, took gold in the regional awards.
And marking the first time the magazine has been honored by ASBPE, the cover image of Convenience Store Products’March/April 2015 issue was honored with a bronze regional award in the category of front cover illustration.
Winsight sister magazines FoodService Director and Restaurant Business also won Azbees. FoodService Director won both regional and national awards in the categories of original research and opening page/spread—illustration. Restaurant Business again was nominated in the most prestigious category, magazine of the year, which it won in 2015. It also won national and regional awards in magazine design, and a regional award for front cover photo and group profile.
National and regional awards ceremonies for the Azbees, presented by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), happened July 21 in St. Petersburg, Fla., and June 29 in Chicago, respectively.
Last year, CSP took home three awards in both regional and national categories, and Restaurant Business won magazine of the year.
