Wawa Community Care Vehicle Warms Up Polar Plunge Events

Wawa and The Wawa Foundation kicked the year off supporting the Special Olympics with the convenience-store chain's Community Care Vehicle.

The vehicle’s 2023 Coffee Tour began on Feb. 2 with stops at annual Polar Plunges. Wawa expects to serve more than 10,000 hot beverages to chilly plungers at events in New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida. The c-store chain has more than 20 events scheduled this winter.

Wawa’s Community Care Vehicle will serve an estimated 50,000 hot beverages at events throughout the year sponsored by national charity partners of The Wawa Foundation, including JDRF Type 1 diabetes organization, Special Olympics, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), the USO and the American Red Cross.

“At Wawa, we believe in being a positive force for good in every community where we live and work—not just with donations, but with heart-felt actions and interactions that help bring out the best in everyone,” said Liz Simeone, senior manager of Wawa Community Care and The Wawa Foundation. “Our Community Care Vehicle is one way we connect with and amplify the efforts of those serving others in our communities.”

The Wawa Community Care Vehicle stop schedule includes the following Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics:

  • Feb. 2: Cool School Plunge, Annapolis, Maryland
  • Feb. 3: Police and Corporate Plunge, Annapolis, Maryland
  • Feb. 3: Cool School Plunge, Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • Feb. 4: Main Polar Plunge, Annapolis, Maryland
  • Feb. 4: Main Polar Plunge, Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • Feb. 5: Polar Plunge, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
  • Feb. 11: Philadelphia Polar Plunge, Philadelphia
  • Feb. 18: Easton Polar Plunge, Easton, Pennsylvania
  • Feb. 25: Seaside Heights Polar Plunge, Seaside Heights, New Jersey
  • March 25: Tampa Polar Plunge, Tampa, Florida
