Sheetz Opens First Durham Store

13th N.C. location

ALTOONA, Pa. Sheetz Inc. has opened a new, 5,000-square-foot convenience store in Durham, N.C. The newest addition to the 334-store chain is the first in Durham, bringing the total of Sheetz stores in North Carolina to 13.

While the store opened to the public on Wednesday, employees will host a community grand opening celebration Thursday, April 26, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 3:30 p.m. that day. As part of those festivities, the company will present $2,500 to the YMCA of Durham.

"It's exciting for us at Sheetz any [image-nocss] time we are able to bring our latest concepts in convenience to a new area," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing for the Altoona, Pa.-based retailer. "We are grateful for the opportunity to reach out to a new part of North Carolina in the Durham community with another location and we are excited to show our support for the YMCA in Durham as well."

The store offers a variety of fresh Made-To-Order items. It features cold and toasted subs, freshly made salads, along with hot fries, onion rings, chicken fingers and burgers all made just the way you want at incredibly low prices. It also features Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso bar staffed by a trained barista. Customers can order handmade coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochashot, frozen or iced. Frozen fruit smoothies round out the Sheetz Bros. Coffeez menu. And it offers new premium brewed self-serve coffees made from 100% Arabica beans in many flavors such as Breakfast Blend, Serious Dark Roast, 100% Columbian and Vanilla Nut Cream. Self-serve milkshakes and self-serve bakery items are all available at the new store, as well.

As at other locations, customers place their food and specialty coffee orders at touchscreen order kiosks.

Other features include a full-service automatic car wash and MasterCard PayPass, in which customers can tap their PayPass-enabled card on a specially equipped terminal instead of handing their card to a merchant or manually swiping it through a reader.

The company posted more than $3.8 billion in revenue for 2006. It operates more than 330 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. All Sheetz locations are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
