YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's Farm Stores plans to double the size of its store at Pennsylvania Ave. and Route 30 in the city of York and build an automatic car wash next to it. Rutter's hopes to break ground on the project in early 2008, pending city approvals.
The 5,000-square-foot store would offer a range of amenities, including Rutter's Famous Express Deli and Famous Express Grill; an upscale self-serve coffee island; seating; newly designed best-of-industry restrooms; 16 fueling positions; and the car wash.
To make way for the expansion, [image-nocss] Rutter's has purchased the former Concentra building on the store's west side that is vacant, and a building on the store's south side where Collectors Toys & Trains operates (it will stay there through the holidays). Rutter's intends to raze its existing store and the two purchased buildings to make way for the new store.
This location is an important gateway to the city of York, and Rutter's is excited to spearhead this revitalization project, said Scott Hartman, president of Rutter's Farm Stores. We look forward to providing the city with the most up-to-date Rutter's store possible.
Meanwhile, the Rutter's Discovery Center for Children will open this summer in downtown York, at the York County Historical Society. Rutter's charitable giving has benefited numerous other city-based organizations and projects, including Crispus Attucks Association, Logos Academy, Junior Achievement's Exchange City and the new YMCA Farquhar Park Aquatics Center.
The city of York is thrilled that Rutter's is expanding in York, said Mayor John S. Brenner. This is a win-win situation for the city, and it will serve to boost our economy. We want to thank Rutter's for the expansion and for their commitment to the city of York. We look forward to a longstanding partnership between Rutter's and the city.
Family-owned and third generation-managed, York-based Rutter's operates 51 convenience stores in York, Adams, Franklin and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania.
