Grocer to add more c-stores, gas

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets Inc. plans to expand its convenience store and gas station business, reported The Lakeland Ledger.

Publix spokesperson Shannon Patten told the newspaper that the Lakeland, Fla.-based grocery chain will add more Publix Pix stores, but it has not determined the location or number of new sites.

The Pix stores, typically located on existing Publix supermarket sites, feature four to six fueling stations and a convenience store or small cashier station. The stores also sell cigarettes and lottery tickets.[image-nocss]

Publix opened its first Pix locations in 2001, said the report, and now operates seven storessix in Florida and one in Tennessee.
