CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. -- Grocery retailer Gordy's County Market has announced plans to build a $600,000 gas station and convenience store in Chippewa Falls, Wis.
The gas station will be one of three Gordy's County Market Express facilities built by the Schafer family as it ventures into the gasoline business, reported The Chippewa Herald.
The other stations will be in Eau Claire and LaFayette, Wis.
The venture is a natural progression for the chain, Gordy Schafer told the newspaper. He said SUPERVALU, the [image-nocss] distributor for the grocery stores, has a program that will support the gas stations as well.
Gordy's County Market Express will tie into the grocery store, Schafer told the newspaper.
The Chippewa Falls City Council on Tuesday granted Gordy's approval to use $60,000 in tax increment financing to demolish a brick house and a retail building. Schafer said he bought the properties 12 years ago with the intention of someday expanding his business interests at the location.
The council also approved a request from Gordy's to construct a 65-foot driveway into the station, said the report.
A 20,000-gallon and a 12,000-gallon underground storage tank will be installed on the property to service eight gasoline pumps that will be located underneath a metal canopy, the report said.
A kiosk will be constructed to house the retail operations of the store, according to the paper, citing project plans submitted to the city of Chippewa Falls. The total project cost is estimated at $597,000, of which $487,000 is projected to cover the cost of tanks, pumps, canopy and site restoration.
