Community Service Roundup: Initiatives by 6 Retailers and More (February 2017)

Savannah, Ga.-based enmarket is inviting nonprofit organizations to apply for one of four grants in its 2017 Encourage Health Educational Series. Recipients will receive a $1,000 grant, and the application process will be held through Facebook. Savannah-area registered 501c3 nonprofits are encouraged to like the enmarket Facebook page and post a comment explaining why they should be chosen. Entries must include how the nonprofit organization inspires or promotes healthy living. The total number of “likes” on individual posts will be considered by an advisory board for the final selection. The deadline is Feb. 28 at midnight.

Parker’s
Through its Fueling the Community program, Savannah, Ga.-based Parker’s recently donated $3,500 to Toombs County Public Schools, $2,000 to Vidalia City Schools, $2,500 to Candler County Public Schools, $5,000 to the Liberty County School System and $5,000 to Bryan County Schools. A portion of gasoline sales on the first Wednesday of each month is donated to area schools via the program.

York, Pa.-based Rutter’s teamed with Support Our American Recruits to pack Valentine’s Day gift boxes, which were shipped to American troops stationed abroad. The boxes contained snacks, chewing gum, coffee and magazines donated by suppliers such as Hershey’s, Utz Snacks, Martin’s Chips, Harrisburg News, S&D Coffee, Wrigley and Con-Agra Foods, as well as handmade Valentine cards from schoolchildren and senior citizens.
Rutter’s also recently announced that it donated $810,000—a new annual record for the company—to central Pennsylvania charities in 2016. The retailer has given more than $6 million to charities in the past decade.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Plano, Texas, and Keep America Beautiful are now accepting applications for its 2017 Park Recycling Bin Grant program. Interested organizations and communities can apply through Feb. 24 at irecycleonthego.wordpress.com. Since its start five years ago, the program has awarded more than 3,400 recycling bins to local governments and community organizations across 38 states to expand the availability of recycling in a variety of park settings.

Krave Pure Foods Inc., Sonoma, Calif., will donate a portion of its Krave Bar sales, up to $50,000, to the Michael Phelps Foundation, which promotes the sport of swimming and encourages children to lead healthy, active lives. U.S. Olympian Michael Phelps is a Team Krave member.
