Xtra Mart's Mikutel elected NYACS chairman

CASTLETON, N.Y. -- Gary Mikutel, regional manager of Xtra Mart Convenience Stores, has been elected 2006-07 chairman of the New York Association of Convenience Stores (NYACS).

From a regional office in Castleton N.Y., near Albany, Mikutel oversees the operation of 70 Xtra Mart locations in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and western New England. Xtra Mart is a division of Providence, R.I.-based Warren Equities Inc.

NYACS, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, represents and serves the states 7,000 neighborhood [image-nocss] mini-marts and c-stores.

Mikutel began his career in the petroleum marketing and c-store trade in 1971 with Lehigh Oil Co., Norwich, Conn., first as a manager, then as a supervisor overseeing 15 gas stations and stores. In 1984, he joined Drake Petroleum Inc., North Grosvenordale, Conn., an operator of ore than 200 Xtra Mart c-stores in 10 northeastern states. He served as a supervisor, district manager, foodservice coordinator, director of marketing and now regional manager.

He has served on the NYACS board since 2002. He succeeds Mickey Jamal of Chestnut Petroleum Distributors, New Paltz, N.Y., as NYACS chairman.
