BP Adds Franchise Manager Position

Carr to focus on recruiting minority franchisees

HOUSTON -- BP has appointed Michael E. Carr as national franchise manager for recruiting for BP America. Carr will lead BP's recruiting for the company's U.S. franchising operation, which includes BP Connect stores east of the Rockies and ARCO am/pm convenience stores that serve 24 million customers a month in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

In this role, he is responsible for multiple franchisee recruiting initiatives, including the business development and growth of BP's U.S. Convenience Operations, with a special emphasis [image-nocss] on recruiting minority franchisees.

Michael Carr brings broad experience, a proven record of success and a commitment to the growth and development of BP's retail business, said Ben Amante, vice president, franchising. The diversity of our franchisees is important to BP, and Carr's leadership will help improve our performance, create competitive advantage and drive ongoing business success.

Based in San Francisco, Carr is also directly responsible for business development in northern California, Oregon and Washington. This includes developing new-to-market convenience stores, re-branding existing stores and purchasing existing operations. Prior to this role, Carr managed 21 franchise sites through BP's U.S. Retail Business Operations.

A BP employee for more than 10 years, Carr has worked in a range of management capacities and divisions, including BP's International Aviation business (Air BP) in Chicago, London and Houston, and BP Chemicals in Chicago. Prior to his career at BP, Carr spent eight years as the Atlanta regional manager for fuel purchasing at Delta Airlines.

This newly formed initiative aims to attract, inform and recruit the best minority-owned franchisees. I look forward to developing many new, diverse and mutually rewarding business relationships between BP and our franchisees, said Carr.

Carr is a member of the International Franchise Association, where he serves on the Minorities in Franchising Committee. The committee develops strategies to increase the number and success of minorities in franchising. While based in Chicago, Carr chaired committees to raise funds for the Children's Memorial Hospital and Literacy Chicago. Carr holds a bachelor of business administration from Augusta State University in Augusta, Ga.
