Atlas Oil & the Dog Days of Summer

Purchases first K9-unit dog for Taylor Police Department

TAYLOR, Mich. -- Atlas Oil purchased a new "K9" police dog for the Taylor Police Department in its headquarters town in Michigan. The dog will support the department and help protect families in the community.

This past winter, the Taylor Police Department recognized the need to add a K9 unit, but did not have the necessary funds to secure one. Recognizing Atlas Oil as strong corporate citizen with a longstanding history of supporting the community, the police department and the City of Taylor approached chairman and CEO Sam Simon with the idea for Atlas Oil to sponsor the dog, and name it after the company.

Atlas is an 18-month-old German Shepherd. After going through 12 weeks of certification with his handler, Officer Rick Barnosky, Atlas is already working shifts as the newest member of the Taylor Police Department.

Police Chief Mary Sclabassi shared with Atlas Oil that having a K9 is like having another officer on staff. The dogs are highly intelligent and skilled at performing in-depth searches and other projects, significantly improving the department's operations.

A second K9 joining the Taylor Police Department courtesy of Atlas Oil is in the works, the company said.

Based in Taylor, Mich., Atlas Oil is a national fuel supply, logistics and services company delivering comprehensive solutions to customers throughout the distribution lifecycle, from crude oil companies to refineries to retail gas stations and commercial end users nationwide.
