FORT WORTH, Texas — Convenience-store retailer Yesway has expanded in Texas and New Mexico with the opening of new Allsup’s-branded stores in Mineral Wells, Texas, and Alamogordo, N.M. These stores represent the first of two new retail prototypes Yesway has developed: a large-format convenience store and a hybrid truckstop.

Yesway acquired the Allsup’s chain in late 2019.

  • Yesway is No. 21 in CSP’s 2022 Top 40 Update to the 2021 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count. Watch for the full 2022 Top 202 ranking in the June issue of CSP magazine and in CSP Daily News.

These stores are the most recent new-to-industry (NTI) stores Yesway has undertaken within both the Yesway and Allsup’s portfolios over the past year and a half, the company said. In addition to these NTI stores, Yesway has also undertaken raze and rebuilds of a number of its existing Allsup’s stores, with those in Artesia, N.M., and Canyon, Texas, among the most recently completed.

The new-to-market stores in Mineral Wells and Alamogordo each contain 5,630 square feet of merchandising space and have 24 fueling positions. The Mineral Wells store has four high-speed diesel fueling lanes, and the Alamogordo store has three.

Each of these new prototypes will feature a forecourt with 10 to 20 fueling positions, two to five diesel lanes for the truckstops, and 5,630 to 6,277 square feet, respectively, of interior merchandising space.

Customers visiting these new stores will find Allsup’s burritos, a full assortment of Yesway and Allsup’s private-label snacks; a new trucker and automotive section; fresh Allsup’s bread, milk and eggs; and a beer cave; along with amenities including Western Union service, ATM availability and Coin Cloud digital currency machines offering more than 30 digital currencies.

“We are thrilled to be bringing these new, larger-format stores to our loyal customers in Texas and New Mexico,” said Tom Trkla, chairman and CEO of Yesway (Trkla is among CSP’s 2020 Power 20). “I am proud of how hard our amazing team has worked to bring these stores to market.”

Yesway had earlier announced that it had raised an additional $235 million of equity capital, $135 million of which was to be invested in targeted real estate capital projects. In support of this initiative, Yesway has also made significant investments in its people, hiring hundreds of new employees and recognizing their excellent work through its Hospitality Heroes program.

Fort Worth, Texas-based Yesway’s portfolio currently consists of 405 Yesway and Allsup’s c-stores in Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Nebraska.
