ST. LOUIS — Purpl Scientific, a biotechnology company in the cannabis industry, has launched Purpl PRO, a portable cannabis potency testing solution. The handheld device, which resembles a scale, connects to the user’s smartphone, which then provides lab-accurate results in less than 10 seconds. It is available for purchase through various cannabis distributors for nearly $1,500.
Purpl PRO gives convenience-store operators and other retailers looking to stock CBD—the nonpsychoactive component of cannabis—the ability to label their products with the correct dosage. This comes on the heels of the FDA’s first public hearing on CBD, where one of the many topics discussed was the need for transparency and accountability among cannabis suppliers, especially for dosage amounts.
"This solution is purpose-built for the cannabis market," said Chad Lieber, president of Purpl Scientific. "By delivering the world's first truly mobile cannabis potency testing solution, we are enabling transparency in a market where product labeling is only inching towards standardization. For the first time ever, anyone can verify the potency of their product in seconds. The implications are incredible as we lift the veil on cannabis quality."
This device has been in the works for several years, the company said. It aims to ensure quality, integrity and consistency throughout the entire cannabis value chain.
"Cannabis potency doesn't have to be a mystery or an assumption," Lieber said. "With the Purpl PRO, you turn your mobile phone into your very own state-of-the-art cannabis potency testing system."
St. Louis-based Purpl Scientific is dedicated to the evolution of the cannabis industry, the company said. It provides cannabis consumers, distributors and manufacturers with information on cannabis quality and its chemical composition throughout its lifecycle, from cultivation to consumption.
