DUXBURY, Mass. -- Principals of VERC Enterprises, a Massachusetts-based independent convenience store/gas station operator, have been recognized for their commitment to hiring veterans and will attend a Veteran-Friendly Employer celebration at the state capital, where they will be awarded a Certificate of Appreciation.

VERC Enterprises and other businesses throughout the state will be acknowledged during the June 15 ceremony for responding to last fall's statewide Hire a Veteran Month campaign. Governor Mitt Romney, Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey, [image-nocss] Representative Anthony Verga and Senator Stephen Brewer, Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs will attend the event.

Our desire and commitment to hire veterans has been longstanding, said Paul Vercollone, a principal in VERC Enterprises, Duxbury, Mass. We are proud to have been selected to attend this important recognition program.

VERC Enterprises operates approximately 20 stations in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.

In other news, Terry Beasley, chief operating officer for major convenience store distributor Eby-Brown, was the as keynote speaker at Memorial Day ceremonies held in honor of fallen heroes on Sunday, May 28, at Rockmart Memorial Park in Rockmart, Ga., home of the Veterans Memorial and Senior Citizens Building. Brown Wright Legion Post 12 hosted the event and invited Beasley.

Naperville, Ill.-based Eby-Brown has been a supporter of the local American Legion since 1998, when it opened its Rockmart distribution center.

We have had employees from Rockmart and our surrounding remote locations who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, Beasley said. The post-9/11 period saw several of our folks called back to military service or activated as Reservists, in support of the Iraq conflict. They have served stateside and in the Middle East. We are very proud of their contributions, and I am honored to be a part of the ceremony, paying tribute to all American heroes.
